Blinds for Windows

Whether you need window coverings for privacy, security or heat efficiency the choice of custom made blinds that are available to you is massive.

We first need to establish why you need custom made blinds, for example if in a conservatory it is often for heat reasons (too hot in summer, too cold in winter) and privacy – ‘it’s like a goldfish bowl in here’! In bedrooms it is often to secure a good nights sleep by using blackout blinds. Or it could be for purely aesthetic reasons in a living room. Once you establish the main reason for wanting blinds in the first place then it is easier to move forward.

Certain materials have certain properties – the hot conservatory is solved with a reflective backing on a pleated blind, but it is very unusual to find other types of blinds with these attributes. Therefore your choice of roof blind is very limited.

Blackout blinds come in vary bland colours and are often only available as roller blinds – again restricting your choice.

So best to decide why you want blinds and then go and get further information, better still get the supplier to come to you so you can match your décor. A good custom made blind installer will show you a whole raft of products which can broaden your aspirations and make you realise how much choice there is.

However most customers tend to have ideas ‘no Venetians, too hard to clean’, ‘I don’t want verticals, they remind me of the office’! So it is fairly straightforward to get to the solution. The key point is once you have chosen the type of blind listen to the supplier to understand the pros and cons of your choice.

Vertical blinds are a great solution for most rooms, versatile, easy to clean and maintain. But do you want chains all over the place to entangle with your children’s limbs? Metal Venetians come packed with style and are very functional but they can get damage very easily, therefore not best for rented properties or the heavy handed!

Roman blinds are gracious and sumptuous but have you seen the cost.

Quite obviously there are lots of options to consider and the best way to get the facts is to ask someone who deals with blinds on a ‘day to day’ basis. You may think that most suppliers would be biased towards one sort or another, but generally they get paid a standard charge for fitting of the blind. So get them in to your house for a quote and then get another company around to get their opinion. In short shop around and be inquisitive – once armed with the facts then you make the call on cost versus quality of service!

Thanks for visiting Custom Made Blinds…we hope we can make the task of choosing the right blinds a little bit easier and we hope to see you again soon.

Getting blinds that cover your doors can be a tricky task, especially from a decor point of view, Sliding Glass Doors are even more so.

The first step in deciding what type of blind is going to best suit a sliding glass door will be to look at the amount of traffic that door
opening has

  • Will people be walking in and out constantly?

For those who have traffic in and out of the opening, the best type of blinds for a sliding glass door will be Vertical Blinds,  they are a great option since they easily move from side to side.

These blinds can take a lot of wear, and were made for daily use.

Vertical Blinds are the most popular custom made blind currently being sold.

This is because they are very versatile, they can be set up to slide to either side or indeed to the centre of the window or door.
